Before I started Mojave Milkshake, I took the train from my home town in Surrey down to Brighton

I really wanted to get some lively street shots with quirky people, no better place than Brighton, right?

I asked this cool guy for a portrait! He was more than happy to help!

Using my Cuban Cigar recipe (modified classic Cuban negative) on my Fuji XT50, I slowly wondered around the beachfront and pier

Must have snapped about a thousand or so shots. So much so, I had to find a “rent a power bank” in Revolution Bar and sit with a rum and coke while my camera recharged!

It was worth the mid-run downtime as I stayed until golden hour and towards sunset.

The pier was fun as there was a specific photo I wanted to achieve, the turbo coaster in motion when it reached the loop.

I managed to capture a lot off life at the pier. Although, it was no where near as busy as it usually gets. I guess that was kind of a blessing really as I could really get into position without battling through crowds.

I made small talk with a group of uni students who asked me to take some photos for them on their tiny Sony camera which belonged to the early 2000s. I then asked them if they wanted some from my camera and I can send them via airdrop on our phones and they were really happy with the results.

I grabbed lunch in the Zip Bar and headed bout to the beachfront for more opportunities. There was a street performer who looked very interesting with his hand gestures, singing old Sinatra songs.

He smiled as I took his photos which was a nice visual cue that I can then get closer and take more without the fear of rejection you often feel capturing people on the streets.

I started heading back up towards the train station now, as it was time to call it a day, still camera in hand of course.

Sadly, the photos of the lanes didn’t come out well. I was using a “gimmick” lens to capture the street life there, but they all seemed a bit poor. Poor in quality and composition.

I would like to revisit here now I have my new 35mm f2 WR lens (about a 50mm on my crop sensor)

All in all, it was a very nice day both in terms of weather and fun-factor. Travelling alone always makes me feel a bit funny, specially to somewhere I don’t know as well as other places.
