Starting in Brockham, Surrey, this walk took me from church to church, and back in time for lunch!

So I decided to head out and enjoy the overcast but mild weather here in Surrey today. A walk I am familiar with, and have done many times with my little dog Darcy, is the Brockham circular route. (Not sure on an official title, but I’d like to call it “there, and back again” as it often feels like you’re in The Shire. The best thing is that you’re back in time for a cheeky second-breakfast at the cafe on the village green!

Starting at the Church on Brockham village green, I followed the footpath down towards the bowls club and kept following the footpath signs along the dirt track. (Easy terrain across the whole walk)

You pass the backs of a few houses and wind up alongside a huge farmers field which, at the end, is home to the Hope Nursery and remembrance garden.

You can keep left of the path for a more interesting route that takes you only 5 minutes off course round the community allotments and remembrance garden pictured above; or you can choose to keep straight and skip this straight to the church at Betchworth.

Once at the church, head to the opposite gate and follow the footpath right.

You will cross a bridge over a lovely stream and on your right is a gate leading to another field where the footpath continues. (It’s a case of follow the well-walked paths at this point)

You cover cattle fields and small rolling hills. There’s a lovely stream on the right, the same one we crossed earlier, and cows are often gathered at the bottom and can be seen grazing.

You’ll pass into another big open field with a sea of buttercups, if it’s the right time of year mind you.

Continue straight along the path, through the gate and straight onto the backs of more houses. We are now back onto the Brockham side,

We take a right and follow the road up, passing the ivy covered hobbit house

We made it back to the church on Brockham green! All round about 2 miles.

It’s such a lovely walk and so much wildlife can be spotted. Parakeets, geese, pheasants, bees, cows, and of course, other doggies enjoying their walks.

If you’re peckish, the cafe overlooking the green serves MEAN chicken burritos, multiple flavours of scotch eggs, teas, coffees, cakes and fizzy drinks to reward yourself for your walk.

I recommend this walk to anyone who wants nature and peace without having to venture far. No cars can be heard 90% of the walk, and the paths are relatively easy terrain.

I’m sure I’ll walk this again for more photo opportunities!
