Coasting To The South Coast

Impromptu trip to the South coast

I decided to visit Littlehampton, and the famous tree tunnel of Halnaker (more on that later…), it was a warm and bright day with minimal breeze, thus perfect for photography.

This trip was mainly to test my new Fuji X lens – The 35mm f2. WR in glorious silver to match my camera body (Fuji XT50)

The beach was very quiet. Only a few people passed through. This was not great for those human subjects I crave. However, it was peaceful and calm to relax in.

The beach hut cafe selling food and drinks near the dinky car park had a few regulars. It was more lively than anywhere else. I managed to snap a few happy, full-bellied patrons coming and going.

During this trip, I had in my mind something that I have heard about but never visited – the Halnaker Windmill and famous Tree Tunnel

I was very excited too see the tree tunnel in particular as the photos online looked stunning …

Whilst this picture certainly makes this location feel stunning, i was not at all impressed…

a famous tree tunnel? Well, it was about 100 yards of just a wooded footpath with trees on both sides of the embankment. We don’t have these at home? I get the feeling tourism must be bad in the area and they needed to drive their numbers up! Instagram Influencer location it is not.

I kid, I kid, it was indeed a nice and surreal looking path, but one I have definitely seen elsewhere a few hundred meters from my house.

Now up the hill from the tree tunnel sits a lone windmill that eerily overlooks a 360 of the surrounding nothingness

The windmill and the view from the south-side

This was in every way cooler and more thought provoking than the previous tunnel of disappointment.
